🌟 Why Run for Student Government? 🌟
Running for office in Student Government is more than just holding a title — it’s your chance to make a difference at Deerlake. As a leader, you’ll have the power to bring new ideas, create fun events, and give your classmates a voice. You’ll learn teamwork, responsibility, and how to speak up with confidence — skills that will stay with you long after middle school.
Whether you want to build school spirit, plan amazing activities, or stand up for your peers, SGA is where leaders are made and ideas come to life. Be the change, inspire others, and leave your mark on Deerlake. ✨
8th Graders: Here are the positions available to run for:
Student Body President – The highest student leadership role in SGA. Leads meetings, represents the whole student body, and works closely with advisors to plan and oversee schoolwide events. Unlike a Class President, this role focuses on leadership across all grades rather than only one class. Eligibility Requirement: Students running for Student Body President or Student Body Vice President must have been active SGA members for the previous two school years.
Student Body Vice President – Assists the Student Body President, helps lead whole-school events, and steps in to lead when the President is unavailable. Unlike a Class Vice President, this position serves the entire school rather than just one grade level. Eligibility Requirement: Students running for Student Body President or Student Body Vice President must have been active SGA members for the previous two school years.
Student Body Secretary – (Open to 7th and 8th graders) Takes notes at Student Government meetings, keeps attendance, and helps communicate important information to members and advisors.
8th Grade Class President – Serves as the leader for the 8th grade, represents the grade at meetings, and helps plan activities.
8th Grade Vice President – Assists the President, takes on leadership roles when needed, and helps organize class projects.
7th Graders: Here are the positions available to run for:

What I Need to do to Run!
1. Submit this SGA Candidate Application2. Join the SGA Election Remind - Code @sga-elect3. Write a maximum 20-30 second speech of why someone should vote for you and email it to Mr. Miller at joseph.miller@leonschools.net4. Make posters to hang up across campus.
5. Record your speeches for the morning announcements
6. Campaign and get voters to vote for you!
