The library media program enhances student achievement through a systematically, collaboratively

        planned instructional program.

        Instructional Partnership

        Museum:

Annually, the media center hosts a museum featuring student made projects from language arts, social studies, and sometimes science classrooms. The library themes are based on the Florida Statutes for mandatory instruction and rotate every 3 years. The 3 topics are: Holocaust, Black History, and Florida. The teachers collaborate with the media specialist on what projects to send to the school-wide, student created museum.

        National History Day:

The LMS and media aide are constantly in social studies classrooms collaborating on research projects like National History Day. The Media Specialist teaches how to use online tools like ProQuest databases to research and NoodleTools to properly site the student research. The media specialist collaborates with teachers to develop ideal topics and meaningful thesis statements. The media center is also used to display the classes' best projects for the school wide history fair competition.

        Language Arts Collaboration:

The LMS works with one language arts teacher to provide historical fiction texts for her classes. They play a game called "The Book" based on the popular television show "The Voice." The activity helps students to find a book they are interested in rather than just choosing the shortest book to read.

        The Book Gameshow

The LMS works with another language arts teacher to host a book club during class. The students' group read a current SSYRA book. Each group is headed by either the teacher, media specialist, media aide, or a retired media specialist who supports their group with reading aloud, discussions, annotation guides, and final project. The LMS created a student survey to help the teacher decide on the group's reading materials.

        Science Collaboration:

Science classes have participated in the museum when the topic of 'Florida' is used. They have created weather posters for the museum. The science department also uses the media center to display creature projects. One teacher also uses the media center for a science scavenger hunt.

        Information Literacy and Inquiry-Based Instruction

        National History Day:

The National History Day research project is mandatory for all 8th grade students and gifted students in 6th grade. Students must research a topic on an annual theme and ask a research question as well as tying their topic to the theme. Students are encouraged to use school-purchased databases (ProQuest Historical Newspaper and Proquest elibrary). Once students are accustomed to the nature of reliable sources, they are encouraged to use those skills and also search elsewhere.

        Digital Citizenship Instruction

School Wide Morning News and Social Media:

The LMS is the news team sponsor and the social media coordinator. Annually, the LMS goes over digital citizenship on the news throughout the month of January. Videos shared are from Common Sense Media. Also, a school-wide Blooket was held on the student news for classes to answer digital citizenship questions. Here is a list attached of what Montford viewed on the news to address the state statute.

        Media Center Posters:

Posters display best practices for internet use in the media center.

        Reliable Sources:

LMS and Media Aide also teach how and why to use NoodleTools in various classrooms in social studies and science classes. They emphasize using reliable school purchased databases and teach 'good' and 'bad' sources.

        Resilience Training:

Annually, the required instruction (formerly Socio Emotional learning) includes lessons on cyberbullying.

        Professional Learning

Teacher Professional Development in Media Center:

The media specialist has given learning sessions on Canva and Cricut.

The technology coordinator has given instruction on Focus (grading program) and Canvas with the collaboration of the media specialist.

The LMS collaborated with a history and a language arts teacher about teaching their students to create podcasts on Black History. Through this lesson, it exposes children to use various technology software like Audacity.
