Communications and Marketing Team

  • The Communications and Marketing Department serves as the District liaison with the media and handles internal and external communications. Our team develops and supports the district and school marketing efforts to build enrollment and community support. From media relations, social media, the district's website, and community relations, to annual district events and district branding, the Marketing & Communications team continually looks for ways to inform and engage stakeholders.

What we do

  • The Communications and Marketing Team uses a variety of different tools to make sure our staff, students and families are in the know:

    • FOCUS - Emails, phone calls and texts from the district
    • LCS Connect - Our official school district newsletter, designed to keep you informed with the latest news, important updates, and inspiring stories from across Leon County Schools
    • Peachjar - Our digital flyers
    • Social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube
    • 1095-tv – Which broadcasts our School Board meetings live
    • ChooseLCS – An online site filled with stories from inside our schools

The Communications and Marketing Department for Leon County Schools is dedicated to fostering transparent, open, and effective communication between our schools, students, families, and the broader community. Our goal is to ensure that all stakeholders are informed, engaged, and connected with the district's mission, programs, and achievements. In addition to providing updates on district initiatives, events, and policies, we are committed to enhancing community engagement through open dialogue and feedback. We value the input of parents, guardians, and residents, and we strive to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone’s voice can be heard.

The Communications Team is also responsible for developing and supporting district and school marketing efforts to increase enrollment and make sure our brand is on point. We want to make sure everyone knows how great our schools are and what they have to offer through School Choice and our innovative CTE programs.

At the heart of our department is a passion for supporting the educational journey of every student and ensuring the success of our schools through clear, consistent, and positive communication. We believe that by keeping our community informed and connected, we can help build a stronger, more supportive educational environment for all.

We also serve as the Public Information Office, responding to media inquiries and sharing story ideas. We love to pitch great stories from our schools to the local media. Make sure to contact us if you know of something you feel is newsworthy. Our Communications Team is also prepared to offer support in a crisis. We will handle the communications with our families, staff, and the community if such a situation arises.

We manage a variety of communication platforms, including the district website, social media channels, newsletters, and press releases, to share important information and celebrate the success of our students, staff, and schools. We work closely with educators, administrators, and the school board to ensure that key messages are delivered in a timely and accurate manner.

District Community Relations

  • The Community Relations team facilitates community involvement in District events and provides coordination and planning for participation in community events, including the annual Best and Brightest Awards,  Volunteer Recognition Awards and Night of Celebration.

The team also facilitates relationships between the community and the District through:

Lastly, we also offer sponsorships. Advertising with Leon County Public Schools is a unique opportunity to reach your audience in a creative and compelling way.

In education, no one succeeds alone. Every great teacher can point to someone who helped them along the way. For first-year teacher Ms. Torkiana Phillips, that person is Ms. Sandra Wilkerson.
