Mrs. Equilla Cooper
I began my journey in education in August 2000 with Leon County Schools at R. Frank Nims Middle School. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Florida State University.
At Nims, I taught a wide range of subjects, including Computer Applications, Career Education, Intensive Reading, and Intensive Math. Since March 2007, I’ve proudly served the students of James S. Rickards High School, teaching courses such as Digital Information Technology and Foundations of Web Design.
Starting with the 2022–2023 academic year, I’ve stepped into a new leadership role as the Advanced Placement Coordinator and Assistant IB Dean. I’m excited to support students as they rise to the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum that prepares them to engage in and contribute to a global society.
I firmly believe every student can learn. While each learner’s journey is unique, my mission is to help them uncover their learning style and foster a lifelong love of education. I am proud that Rickards offers diverse post-graduation pathways—whether students pursue college, technical training, or enter directly into the workforce.
Outside of school, I recharge by running, cooking, crafting with my Silhouette, and spending quality time with my family and friends.
